If you’ve lived long enough to have been scared out of your pants by flying monkeys, you’ll appreciate why The Great American Dream of owning your own home is more than just a platitude. It’s your ticket to living a better quality of life for as long as you can.

Why your Home is more than just a house.

Home is a place (house) where you live, where you sleep, eat, and spend time with loved ones. But it’s also where you build relationships and create cherished memories, forging an emotional connection that supersedes the physical space. Home can be a place of safety, comfort and familiarity. And it’s where most of us would like to be as we grow older, rather than in a facility in the company of strangers.

According to a recent University of Michigan National Poll on Healthy Aging report, the majority of adults age 50–80 (88%) felt it is important to remain in their homes for as long as possible. But nearly half (47%) reported they had given very little, if any, consideration to what home modifications would be needed. Many were not truly prepared to age in place.

But forewarned is forearmed – there are numerous resources homeowners can turn to help plan and afford the modifications needed to help make a house into a safe haven where they can pass the coming years as confidently and comfortably as possible.

Aging in Place Oregon was founded to be one of those resources – a reliable partner to help assist and guide you along your way.

“The findings from this poll suggest that while most older adults feel it is very important for them to stay in their home as long as possible, many are not prepared to age in place.”
